FTC Assistant is a code tutor and debugger built for FIRST Tech Challenge teams. This page explains what we collect, why, and how AI is involved in answering your questions. If something here is unclear, contact us at the address at the bottom.

Data we collect

Creating an account and using the assistant involves the following:

• Account info — your email address, and optionally a team number and display name. Your password is handled by our authentication provider (Supabase); we never see or store it in plain text.
• What you send the assistant — the questions you ask and any code you paste in, plus the assistant's replies. These are saved as your conversation history so you can come back to it later.
• Derived data — numeric representations ("embeddings") of your messages, generated so the assistant can search your own past conversations for relevant context. These are meaningless outside our system; they aren't readable text.
• Usage timestamps — when you send a message, kept briefly to enforce fair-use limits (so one user can't exhaust the service for everyone else) and tied to your account.

How AI is involved

Every question and code snippet you submit is sent to third-party AI providers to generate a response: Groq processes your message to write the answer, and Voyage AI processes it to generate the search embeddings described above. Sending your message is what makes the assistant work — there is no way to get an answer without it. We don't control how long those providers retain data on their own systems beyond what their respective terms state.

Answers are AI-generated and can be wrong or incomplete. Treat them as a starting point for debugging, not as ground truth — especially before you trust them with competition code.

Who else processes your data

We use a small number of infrastructure providers to run the app. None of them see your data for any purpose other than running this service:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and where your account and conversation data are stored.
• Vercel — application hosting; like any web host, it keeps standard server request logs.
• Groq and Voyage AI — process message text as described above.

We do not sell your data, and we don't run advertising or third-party analytics/tracking scripts on this site.

How long we keep it

Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. There isn't yet a self-serve "delete my account" button — email us at the address below and we'll remove your account and associated data.

Security

Your conversations are only visible to you — enforced by row-level security at the database level, not just in the app's interface. All traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), and passwords are never stored in plain text.

Users under 13

FTC Assistant is built for FIRST Tech Challenge teams, which can include students under 13. We do not knowingly collect more than the account info above from any user, regardless of age. If you're a parent or guardian and want a minor's account reviewed or removed, contact us and we'll act on it.
